Modernizing hospital safety in Albany

Structure Consulting Group completed a blue-light audit and total system replacement at the Samuel S. Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany, New York. The project replaced aging emergency call stations and upgraded one call-box location to a standalone blue-light tower.

The project

Emergency communication equipment is a visible part of a hospital campus. It also needs dependable connections to the people who respond. At Albany VA, SCG's work focused on replacing legacy hardware with modern call boxes and improving visibility at a high-traffic location.

Replacing aging call boxes

SCG replaced older emergency call stations with high-visibility units designed for outdoor durability and clear audio communication. The upgraded equipment uses cellular connectivity and connects callers with campus security or emergency responders.

A more visible emergency tower

One traditional call-box location was converted to a standalone blue-light emergency tower. The taller format and illuminated blue housing make the emergency communication point easier to identify in a high-traffic area.

Built for ongoing operation

The new systems include battery backup, weather-resistant housings, system monitoring and direct connections to local security or emergency responders. These capabilities support the facility's emergency communication network and give its team a more modern platform to maintain.

The completed scope

  • A comprehensive audit of the existing blue-light system.
  • Replacement of aging emergency call boxes.
  • Conversion of one call-box location to a standalone emergency tower.
  • Modern cellular-enabled communication equipment with backup power and monitoring.

The project modernized the hospital's emergency communication infrastructure. It did not change the need for ongoing inspections, connection checks and maintenance.
